Review: 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliner in #4 Chicago

♫ 周杰伦 - 手写的从前

I'm back, with the last (for now) of my 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliner reviews. (≧∇≦)

This time, it's a slightly darker, but no less dazzling, purple shade - 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliner in #4 Chicago.
I purchased this during one of Luxola's sales last year. Admittedly, I got this for a total steal, as somehow there was a glitch on the website which caused some 3CE products to be discounted the opposite of their intended amount. (・﹃・) Hello, 65% discount!

As with all the other 3CE eyeliners, the sleek black packaging is minimalistic and elegant, while the coloured ends of both the box and eyeliner pencil make it easy to identify individual shades.

Don't forget the authenticity seal too, which indicates that the product is genuine and ensures that it has not been tampered with.

Not only is the eyeliner the retractable type, which minimizes wastage from sharpening, it also includes a handy little tip sharpener at the bottom.

#4 Chicago is described as a 'pearlescent purple', and you can clearly see the shimmer within the dark purple.
Swatched on hand
Applied on the eyes
However, when swatched, the pearlescent multi-coloured shimmers are more pronounced. Unlike the previous matte shades, #4 Chicago is much more shimmery and does not apply as smoothly - rather, it goes on slightly patchy. This could be due to the fact that it has shimmer, making it less smooth and slightly harder than the creamy matte eyeliners.
The designs I drew on my hand were only 1 or 2 strokes, whereas I had to apply several more layers to get the colour intensity seen in the eye swatch (3-4 swipes on upper eyeline, 1-2 swipes on half lower eyeline).

I like how it looks applied as an eyeliner on its own, as the purple is not overly bright but the shimmers give it some extra 'oomph'. I also tried pairing it with #9 Wow Pink, and really love the results!

#4 Chicago + #9 Wow Pink + small flick of black eyeliner

As with most shimmery eyeliners, I find that the shimmers do slightly transfer onto the eyelashes, but a swipe or two of mascara should solve the problem. The 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliners are really long-lasting; this eyemake lasted well up to 6 hours and didn't smudge, although it did fade a bit by the end of the day.

Bottom line is, if you're looking specifically for a purple eyeliner, you might love or skip this depending on your requirements, but overall I'd definitely recommend these retractable 3CE eyeliners for their long-lasting, waterproof, smudge-proof properties.

✓ Pros: Sleek simple packaging, pigmented, smooth and creamy application (except some of the shimmery shades), waterproof, smudge-proof, available in a variety of shades, retractable type eyeliner, comes with tip sharpener.
✗ Cons: Pricey, small amount of product, not easily available outside of S.Korea unless bought online.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised too when I saw the glitch/price. XD It's so pretty I can overlook a bit of extra time using it, haha!

Anis: Well, maybe darker shades like navy or purple should be alright on casual Fridays? ;)

Cindy: The tip can be sharpened, but yeah, it goes on rather patchy coz of the shimmer I think. I don't mind though, coz it looks really nice with a few layers and lasts the whole day. :D
