Review: Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar in #11 Juicy Pop

♫ JONGHYUN (종현) - Dress Up

A few months back, Laneige released 4 new shades of its innovative Two Tone Lip Bar, as well as the new Two Tone Shadow Bar. The Two Tone Lip Bar in #11 Juicy Pop, in particular, was sold out as soon as it was released, due to the fact that it was used by Song Hye Kyo in the highly popular Descendants of the Sun k-drama.

I was lucky enough to snag one online from Laneige Malaysia when it was restocked, but never got around to share my thoughts about it - until now. (Procrastination is a scary thing, lol) Cut to the chase, let's get on with the swatches and review! :D

All (or most) of Laneige's products come in a box with holographic accents, and this one is no exception. Unlike most lipsticks, the Laneige Two Tone Lip Bars are long and rectangular in shape, with a slider at the side that allows you to extend and retract the lipstick as needed. The body itself is made from plastic, with 3 distinct sections: the highly reflective silver cover, white 'body' with Laneige logo and slider button, and the transparent bottom which lets you identify the lipstick shade.

That said, these are two-tone lip colours. The bottoms are just one single colour. With 14 shades in total for the range, I can't be the only one who's slightly disappointed that the bottom doesn't correspond with each shade's dual colours, right? How am I going to differentiate my #4 Milk Blurring with #12 Maxi Red?! (⇀‸↼‶)

One thing you have to note about the Laneige Two Tone Lip Bars is that the slider button mechanism is a bit different from conventional lipsticks, which you just twist to extend and retract. For these lip bars, you have to slide down to extend (push up) and slide up to retract. It can be a bit confusing at first, but you'll get used to it after a while. You might be greeted with a mess inside though, if you happen to slide the button down while the cap is still on. (ノωヽ)

#11 Juicy Pop is definitely an unusual combination - the bright yellow and coral look fairly intimidating at first, but once you've gotten over the shock and try it out, I promise it'll be a nice surprise.

Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar #11 Juicy Pop
It's not crazy pigmented like some lipsticks, but the colour is buildable so 2 swipes are enough for full opacity. Unblended, both colours look quite jarring, especially the yellow, but once you press your lips together and tap with your fingers to blend them, the result is a very pretty - and fairly bright - coral-pink shade. The lip swatch below only used one layer, which is good enough for me.

Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar #11 Juicy Pop
Texture-wise, it is creamy, applies very smoothly and is very blendable. There is no noticeable scent to it. I would say it's quite moisturizing, as it doesn't dry up my lips, but it won't blend well on, and will show up, dry/chapped lips. The colour can last up to 3 hours with minimal eating and drinking, but you'll definitely need to re-apply after a meal.

The verdict? I love the concept and design of the Laneige Two Tone Lip Bars; they add a touch of fun into makeup, which is always a good thing, and the colours are very pretty. I've been reaching for #11 Juicy Pop quite often lately, because it's a great colour for both work and play. The lip bar's lightweight and slim design make it easy to carry around, but you'll need the help of a mirror to apply on-the-go, otherwise you'll end up with some wonky lips. (๑>◡<๑) At RM75 each, they're not exactly cheap, but for the quality and unique colour combinations, I'd say it's more than worth it.

Want something a little easier on the pocket AND has 3 colours in one lipstick? Then you might want to check out Maybelline's Lip Flush Bitten Lips (review coming soon)!

Sephora Malaysia Black Card Sale Haul

♫ EXO - Monster

Let's begin by saying... I don't really shop at Sephora. *le gasp*

Wait, hear me out. What I mean to say is, Sephora is really fun and amazing and there are plenty of outlets in the Klang Valley that I can easily visit, but my inner scrooge simply cannot in good conscience pay full price for an item that I know I can get for cheaper elsewhere. *coughonlinecough* Which is why when Sephora Malaysia had its Black Card member sales last month, I couldn't resist taking a look, and ended up buying a few things from its online store that I may or may not need. (⌒_⌒;)

[If you're wondering how I managed to get to Black Card member status despite not shopping often at Sephora, it's because I've bought stuff from Luxola before, which was bought over by Sephora last year. Subsequently, my Luxola points were converted into Sephora points.]

Enough with the backstory; let's go straight to the (mini) haul!

First up is Ciaté Double Lines, a double-ended eyeliner which has a Precision Tip liquid eyeliner on one side, and a retractable Kohl Kajal eyeliner on the other. I quite like the felt-tip eyeliner side, which is very pigmented and firm enough to ensure sharp cat-eye flicks. I've never used kohl eyeliner before, but I love how it's much creamier and pigmented than regular pencil eyeliners.

Ciaté Glow Pop

Another item I got is the adorable little Ciaté Glow Pop, which is a matte creme bronzer. I plan to use this to practice my contouring skills, using the...

...Sigma F57 Emphasize Contour brush, the final item in my Sephora haul. I admit, this is more of an impulse purchase because it had just been newly listed on Sephora when I was browsing during the sale, and I thought "Why not, since I'm already getting the bronzer and don't have a contour brush like this?" (Also because there were only 2 left in stock LOL #kiasu) I also managed to nab the GWP for any Sigma brush purchase, which includes a makeup brush pouch and travel-size E25 Blending brush. I already have a silver one from a previous purchase, so I'm glad to have this pink one to add to the collection. (。✪‿✪。)

Well, that's all for my mini Sephora sales haul! I've been hauling waaaay too much makeup these past few months. (ºДº) I've yet to use half of the items I bought in my April Gmarket haul, and now I'm waiting for the remaining items from my new Gmarket haul(s) to arrive. (๑>◡<๑) Stay tuned for updates!

Review: Mentholatum Sugar Lip Lipbalm in 02 Dancing Pink & 04 Rock'n Pink

♫ Bebe Rexha - No Broken Hearts (ft. Nicki Minaj)

Well, it's been a while since I last used a lip balm, so I was rather interested to find these Mentholatum Sugar Lip lip balms at my doorstep a couple months back.

Its formulation features brown sugar in the recipe, which works to nourish and smoothen your lips. It also acts as a natural humectant that seals in moisture and keeps lips feeling hydrated. Makes sense, as most - if not all - homemade lip scrubs have brown sugar as the main ingredient. I received two out of the four shades available in Malaysia: 02 Dancing Pink and 04 Rock'n Pink.

Review: Isa Knox Micro Foam Cushion Silk Cover #23 Natural Beige

♫ 傅又宣 - 爱.这件事情

As the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to cosmetics, I am all too guilty of being attracted to the packaging first, above all else. If you're a fellow makeup hoarder collector, I'm sure you have the exact same sentiment. (~˘▾˘)~ So when I saw this beauty on Gmarket, I just knew I had to get my hands on it.

Get it I did in my Gmarket haul, and I am happy to report that it is every bit as pretty as in the product photos.

Oops, I think I forgot to formally introduce you to my latest love, the Isa Knox Micro Foam Cushion Silk Cover. There are two shades for this BB cushion, and the one I chose is the darker of the two, #23 Natural Beige. Isa Knox is a skincare brand under LG Cosmetics Korea, and this BB cushion is their latest offering for 2016. I can't read Hangul, so I'm not sure whether it's a limited edition casing, but gosh darn it the cherry blossom design paired with the pastel  hues of Pantone Color(s) of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity, is so pretty I could cry. ಥ_ಥ

Without further ado, let's begin the review!

Gmarket Korea Haul (April 2016)

♫ iKON - RHYTHM TA

Ever since my first Gmarket haul 4 years ago (has it really been that long?!), I've never purchased anything from Gmarket because buying directly was a very complicated process, and going through an agent was pretty expensive. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, when I discovered that Gmarket Korea was finally open to international buyers, and there was a special $5 flat shipping rate to Malaysia.

The rest, as they say, is history. My giant box of early Christmas presents Korean skincare and makeup goodies arrived within 10 days of payment, and I'm really excited to show you my haul. :D

I knew that consolidated Gmarket parcels would be packed in a big box and sent out together for international deliveries, but I was not prepared for how big it actually was! Σ(゜ロ゜;) It's fun to open the box and see a bunch of smaller boxes waiting to be opened though. (≧∇≦)

LauraLeia x Japan: Tokyo Snacks Haul!

♫ DISH// - KLAP

Earlier this month, I took a long-awaited (and much-deserved) vacation to Tokyo, Japan with my brother and his friend. Needless to say, it was all very new and exciting, since it was my first (but definitely not last!) trip to one of the busiest cities in the world.

I won't bore you with my travel photos (that will probably come in another post - if ever - since I'm still sorting them out) but what I am going to share with you is my crazy SNACKS haul! I mean, we're talking the land of Pocky, Tokyo Banana and weirdly-flavoured Kit Kats, after all. NOT buying back any snacks would be a crime against food. ಠ_ಠ

So, let's begin! (Warning: Picspam ahead!)

Review: Nakeup Face WaterKing Cover Cushion #23 Natural Beige

♫ BTS - I Need You

If you've been following my Facebook page, Winter Blossoms, you probably would've seen me post a few sneak peeks of my items from Nakeup Face.

What's Nakeup Face? No, it's not a typo. This brand of Korean cosmetics is new to Malaysia, but back in Korea it has a huge following comparable to another brand with similar sleek packaging *cough3CEcough* and been featured in various magazines and beauty talk shows. Apparently girl group SISTAR's Soyou is also a fan, among a host of other Korean celebrities. Nakeup Face products have also consistently ranked first and second place in Naver Korea's cosmetic sales!

In this post, I'll be reviewing the Nakeup Face WaterKing Cover Cushion in shade #23 Natural Beige. It's a BB cushion that promises to be hydrating while creating flawless radiant skin. It contains mineral water to ensure it adheres lightly to skin, triple-covering method for perfect coverage, and an aqua coating formula for 4D glamour and glowing skin to provide a smooth and radiant finish. The formula also has the triple function of whitening, wrinkle improvement, and sun protection (SPF35/PA++).

Jan & Feb 2016 Empties

♫ FS (Fuying & Sam) - 爱一个人不一定要在一起

I know, it's been suuuuper long since I last updated my blog! (๑>︵<๑) I also seem to be saying that a lot lately, but honestly, I will try my best to update more regularly these days. Pinky swear.

Anyway, I wanted to do a haul post at first to slowly ease back into my blogging schedule, but decided to share some thoughts of some products that I've managed to use up so far in 2016.

3CE Real Soft Cleansing Sherbet - Honestly, this is probably the best makeup remover I've ever used (sorry, Biore!) and I'm really sad to see it go. I bought this from Luxola a year ago, I think, during one of their sales. There was a glitch in the system at the time and I managed to snag this for like 75% off instead of the supposed 25% lol (¬‿¬) Like the same suggests, it has a sherbet-like texture and turns milky when it comes into contact with water. I just need to scoop a small amount onto dry fingers, massage it over areas with makeup, and then rinse it off with water. This one really removes everything, from eyeliner and mascara to foundation and lipsticks (except for ultra-staying power lippies like CLIO Lipnicure or OCC Lip Tar). Highly recommend this!

L'Oreal Hydra Fresh Hydration + Antiox Active Mask-In Water Gel - I've tried many L'oreal skincare products in the past couple of years, and I like this one the best. Don't be intimidated by the long name; it's basically a day moisturizer that's very lightweight and smells absolutely lovely. If you're looking for a non-greasy daily moisturizer that works well in Malaysian weather and has a hint of floral scent, this one is for you. :)

Garnier Sakura White Pinkish Radiance Gentle Cleansing Foam - I got this one from the Butterfly Project Christmas Beauty Box and using it on and off for a good part of last year. Nothing particularly good or bad about it; it works well to cleanse my face at the end of the day, and doesn't irritate my skin. It also has a slight hint of floral fragrance, so if you like floral scents like me, this is a good and affordable daily cleanser.

Daiso Detergent for Puff and Sponge - This doesn't really need any introduction, since it's been around the beauty blogosphere for a long time now. This is the third bottle that I've finished, and for a very affordable RM5.30 per bottle, it does a bang up amazing job at thoroughly cleaning my makeup brushes and puffs.

Biore Aqua Jelly Makeup Remover - I've been alternating between this and the 3CE cleansing sherbet, so it took me about a year to finish up this one. Biore has always been my choice for makeup removers, so I decided to try this 'jelly' one after finishing the cleansing oil version. I find it to be just as effective as the oil version, and gentler on the skin since it's water-based.

That's it for my empties post! I actually have a few other product I'd finished up, but forgot to take photos so I won't be posting them here. Stay tuned for the next few posts, where I'll be reviewing some awesome new Korean makeup that I've recently discovered! (≧∇≦)
