Review: 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliner in #9 Wow Pink

♫ XIA (준수) - 그 말 참 밉다 (I Hate That Word)

In my 3CE Gel Eye Liner review, I mentioned that I'd purchased 2 eyeliners in my FH Club haul. Also probably because I kiasu and don't want to miss out on such a good deal especially since everything's gonna be more expensive once April/GST kicks in.

Today, it's 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliner #9 Wow Pink's turn to claim the spotlight. I know, I know - it's all about eyeliners and lipsticks with me, lol.
Do I need more eyeliners? No.
Do I want eyeliners in all the colours of the rainbow? Heck YES.

Detachable sharpener at the bottom
Come, let us proceed with the review.
3CE's sleek black packaging should be pretty familiar by now, with its minimalist design and smooth matte finish, complete with sticker seal to ensure it has not been tampered with. The eyeliner shade is identified by the colour at the top of the outer box and bottom part of the pencil respectively. The shade name of the eyeliner is printed on the pencil, near the bottom part which houses the sharpener. (Note: "Sharpener" is spelled as "Sharpner" on all my 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eyeliners, so it's a typo on the manufacturer's part and does not indicate that the eyeliner pencil is fake.)

Retractable eyeliner
Besides the sleek black design, I also like how the eyeliner is the retractable type, making it easier to sharpen the tip without excessive waste of product.

This is what #9 Wow Pink looks like when swatched on my hand. It is a hot pink shade with a matte texture similar to #10 Mojito. The colour is quite true to the colour in the pencil, even though it shows up slightly darker here.

For this look, I first drew my usual eyeliner style using the 3CE Gel Eye Liner (Brown) on the upper lashline and half of the lower lashline, then added a line of #9 Wow Pink right above the upper eyeline for a pop of bright colour. It didn't go on as smoothly as when I swatched it on my hand, but a few careful strokes yielded the results you see above. (◕‿◕)

I've always wanted a hot pink eyeliner, so I'm really glad I managed to pick this up for a song. I think it would look better with a crisp black eyeliner for that 'mod' vibe, or lightly smudged out as eyeshadow (if you work quick enough, as it sets quite fast). It does tug a little during application, probably due to its dry matte texture. Lasting powder is 6 hours with minimal fading at the end of the day, and is waterproof as well as smudge-proof, not to mention superb pigmentation.

✓ Pros: Sleek simple packaging, pigmented, smooth and creamy application, waterproof, smudge-proof, available in a variety of shades, retractable type eyeliner, comes with tip sharpener.
✗ Cons: Pricey, small amount of product, not easily available outside of S.Korea unless bought online.

Review: 3CE Gel Eye Liner in Brown

♫ 엠버 (AMBER) - Just Wanna (Feat. 에릭남)

Feeling slightly Korean today, because I'm going to share my thoughts about a Korean cosmetics brand that has been trending for a while now.

This particular Korean cosmetics brand is called 3CE (short for 3 Concept Eyes), and it's a cosmetics line under the popular Korean fashion brand Stylenanda. It's been gaining popularity around Asia for the past year or so, and while most people rave about their lipsticks, I've been quite taken by their eyeliners. (Check out my review of the beautiful mint green Creamy Waterproof Eyeliner in #10 Mojito!)

I recently purchased 2 eyeliners from FH Club during their 3CE sale, but today I'll just be reviewing the 3CE Gel Eye Liner in Brown.

Side note: I was initially cautious about buying from them, as I wasn't sure whether the products were genuine, but after comparing them to my other 3CE eyeliners, I'm 99% convinced (let's ignore the 1%, okay? ^^;;) they're authentic. I would also like to commend the FH Club customer service team on their efficiency. I had some trouble tracking my order, so I sent in a contact form asking about it, and they replied it within that day itself. In addition, they had discovered that my parcel was shipped without the gel eyeliner brush, so they informed me that it would be sent out immediately, and I received the brush the very next day. Kudos to the FH Club team! (๑>◡<๑)

The gel eyeliner comes in the usual sleek black 3CE box, with the inside being a striking hot pink shade. The eyeliner brush is included together with every pot of gel eyeliner, and is a fairly standard flat round brush that works well to pick up and apply the product. (If it doesn't come with an eyeliner brush like the one in the picture, please beware of fakes and double check with the seller.)

The gel eyeliner is packaged inside a small frosted glass pot with black screw cap lid. It's small but feels luxuriously weighty in my palm (for its size). As with all other 3CE products, there is a sticker seal to make sure that it has not been opened or tampered with.

The bottom of the jar contains information about the eyeliner shade, expiry date, and country of manufacturer. Even if you can't read the Korean words like me, understanding these 3 things should be more than sufficient. :)

(Picture taken from official Stylenanda 3CE site)

The gel eyeliner is very creamy, glides on smoothly using the included brush, and is easily blendable when freshly applied. However, once it sets (which takes about a minute), it won't budge even if you rub it. The colour of the eyeliner is not as dark as I expected from the official photos, but still quite pigmented nonetheless.

I used the brush to apply the gel eyeliner on the upper waterline and lined the lashline, as well as bringing it down halfway on the lower waterline. It doesn't look as vivid as the hand swatch, and the brown shade is definitely less stark than my usual black eyeliner.

Lip colour is my own custom lip cream shade! :D
I wore this for most of the day, and while it smudged a bit on the lower waterline (this happens with every single liner I use), the upper liner was still intact at the end of the day. I think I still prefer black gel eyeliner for tightlining around the eyes, but as far as brown eyeliners go, this 3CE Gel Eye Liner in Brown is a pretty good bet if you're looking for a nice brown shade. Plus, the included brush isn't half bad.

✓ Pros: Good pigmentation, nice packaging, comes with eyeliner brush, waterproof, smudge-proof, long lasting.
✗ Cons: Expensive, not easily available except online, lots of fakes so you'll have to beware when buying online.

D.I.Y. - Custom Lip Cream

♫ 林俊杰 - 生生

Remember my DIY lip gloss post? Well, this time around, I decided to go with something a little less glossy and a bit more creamy. I managed to get a bunch of these adorable little containers from a store clearance, so it was a good chance to use them for this little experiment.

First, you'll need to prepare some items:
  • Small container / contact lens case
  • Small plastic spoon/spatula
  • Toothpick
  • Vaseline
  • Lip pigments - you'll need at least 2 to create a custom colour
  • Lip brush - to try out your creation on the spot! ;)
  1. Start by scooping a good amount of Vaseline into the container (mine is approximately 1 teaspoon).
  2. Add lip pigments as desired.
  3. Mix it all up thoroughly using the toothpick.
  4. Add more pigments until you're satisfied with the colour, and mix again.
  5. Clean up the sides of the container.
  6. Done! :)

I've hardly touched the OCC Lip Tars that have been sitting in my makeup shelf, so it's a good way to use them and create my own lip cream shades. To get the colour below, I added 3-4 drops of Femme (light peach), 2 drops of Anime (hot pink), and 3-4 drops of Grandma (bright coral).

The result is a creamy, pigmented lip cream that is glossy and non-drying. It also leaves a nice stain after the shine has worn off or if you blot with a tissue. Imagine all the possibilities with your OCC Lip Tars, 3CE Lip Pigments, Sleek Paint Pouts, etc! (≧∇≦)

The only downside is that you'll have to apply it with a lip brush. (⌒_⌒;) Also, the OCC Lip Tars have a very minty scent that I personally dislike (but others may love).

Do you own any lip pigments? If you do, give this fun little DIY a try, and who knows, maybe you'll whip up your personal signature lip colour! (◕‿◕✿)

NOTD: Pastel Rainbow with Pearls and Rhinestones

♫ Yes933 online radio

A few days back, I received something that I had bought from eBay several weeks ago and have been eagerly anticipating its arrival ever since. It was enclosed in a small bubble wrap envelope, but would enable me to make a big difference to my nail art adventures. (๑>◡<๑)

I managed to get this for $1.99 (approx RM 7.50) and it contains 12 different colours of 1.5mm round glitter rhinestones. The best part is that it comes in a plastic pillbox-like case that has 12 individual compartments for each colour, which makes it much more convenient to pick out the tiny rhinestones compared to the usual wheel case type (like the pearl wheel below; also bought from eBay).

Multi-colour nail art pearl wheel
So, after removing my purple gradient white leopard manicure, I decided to revisit and upgrade an all-time favourite - pastel rainbow nails!

It's actually very simple. Just pick 5 pastel colours of your choice, paint 3/4 of each nail (it doesn't have to be very neat, but I used ring reinforcement stickers to get a nice half-moon curve), then arrange the pearls and rhinestones along the border. You can use nail glue or top coat to stick them on, then seal everything with a good layer of top coat.

This blue nail is my favourite combo (≧∇≦)
It's really easy, and if you don't have so many different coloured rhinestones and pearls, you can always get a packet of silver glitter rhinestones and white/ivory pearls. You can use them for everything, because they match with practically every nail colour you can think of!

Review: Miacare Acne Defense Concealer Stick

♫ 林俊杰 - 新地球 专辑

Now, we all know that concealers are pretty darn useful to hide our panda eyes (a.k.a. dark circles) and red spots/blemishes. However, I personally hesitate to apply any sort of makeup on pimples/acne, for fear of making the spot worse.

Miacare Acne Defense Concealer Stick is a concealer stick made specifically to target acne areas. It aims to help oily, blemish-prone skin beat acne and at the same time soothe, calm and cover blemishes.

The product adopts the latest technology that perfectly combines the ingredients of flaw repair and skin toning. With high skin affinity, it instantly integrates with foundation by gentle massaging and can also improve acne and pimple problems at the same time.

The retractable pen type design makes it easy to use; the plastic body, while lightweight, looks and feels rather flimsy. The shade of the concealer (there's only 1 shade available) makes it more suitable only for those with medium skin tones.

The instructions on the box state that "After cleansing and (base) makeup, apply the Acne Defence Concealer Stick on desired areas". I am lucky because I seldom have acne problems, except when the weather is exceptionally hot or when I'm under major duress.

I tried using this concealer stick on a pimple, and personally, I felt that it was a tad too dry on my normal/combination skin. It did manage to cover most of the redness around the pimple, but the concealer was not pigmented enough to cover the 'head' of the pimple, which was still fairly visible and couldn't be concealed well. You will need at least a few layers for full coverage; not recommended as this will undoubtedly cause more harm than good. (⌒_⌒;)

Overall, I feel that this product is just average. It would be more suitable for medium skin tone users with oily skin that is prone to acne and blemishes, as the formula of the concealer stick is on the dry side. It's also pretty expensive, considering the price for only 1.2g of product. It comes in a slim, lightweight, retractable pen, making it easy to carry around for touch-ups if needed.

Miacare Acne Defense Concealer Stick (1.2g) retails at RM 24.90, and is available at all Watsons and Guardians naionwide.
